Desiree Winters: Bay Area-Based Kinesiologist & Production Assistant

BIO

My name is Desiree Winters. Born and Raised in Sacramento, California. I went to school at University of Hawaii at Manoa. In my time, I ran track and studied Kinesiology. After moving back to Sacramento, I knew I didn’t want to work the typical 9-5 job. I started working in the casino then I got involved into film as an extra and a production assistant.

Why are you participating in the Lit From The Black! 2024 fellowship

I had the opportunity to be an extra in a short film called ‘Draft Night’ in Oakland. It opened my eyes to what it takes to have many people come together to produce a film. I had so much fun and making connections that it shaped me into considering, how I would like to be more involved in the film industry. After working on draft night, it encouraged me to get more on set experience as a production assistant. In my time as a PA, I started asking more questions with the sound department and he let me try on the headphones . Hearing how crisp the sound was made me realize how much sound can really enhance a film. I would love to be apart of more black films and have that community to really enjoy our company and reach a common goal
