RAW WRITING
What is Raw Writing? Raw writing is the first step to writing for real; writing that’s uncooked, unprepared, and unseasoned. In this workshop series, all you'll do is write and write and write. Whether you want to write poetry, short stories, personal reflections, or journal entries, Raw Writing will give you a supportive and non-judgmental environment to free yourself from anxiety and get words on the page.
Over five weekly sessions, you'll be offered tools and exercises to help you trust your instinct and start writing in a style and a voice that only you can express (Tip #1 - You already know all that you're going to write because it's going to come from your life). If you're thinking "I'd love to write, but I'm not a writer," or "I'm a writer, but I don't know what to write about, "Raw Writing is the perfect kick-off point for you.
* Courage is a requirement for this workshop.
About Michael French
Michael has been a theatre director, writer, actor, and teacher for over twenty years. He has directed over fifty plays, including "Down Here Below" for the Ubuntu Theatre Project in Oakland, "And On... " for Here Theatre in New York, and the "Zoo Story" for the Glasshouse Theatre in London. He has also written five plays, including the award-winning "The Rainy Season," and co-written the much acclaimed "The Buddha Prince," a site-specific play on the life of the Dalai Lama. Michael is currently the Artist Development Co-Ordinator for Onye Ozi, the Creative Director at Other Hand Media, and is co-writing an adaptation of Heinrich von Kleist's novella, "The Betrothal of Santo Domingo."
Afro Urban Society/Sufferhead Academy
Afro Urban Society is a creative community of brilliant artists and culture workers dedicated to celebrating the unique expressions of Urban Africans through performance and community activism. Through original and curated arts & event production, popular arts education, and community engagement we create spaces for diverse African stories. Our project, Sufferhead Academy is a series of creative and artistic industry workshops for the culture.
