“Transmuting...” is a music-video illuminating my personal journey to self-discovery as a black woman, and as a part of the universe outside of societal perception. Existing in a world demanding answers often leaves me scrambling to have something to say for myself, but internally I am in a process of downloading, understanding, and transforming. This music video is an expression of what that journey feels like for me, as I give myself the space and self-love to transfigure.

About Mawu

Mawu is a singer-songwriter who makes music to illuminate the emotional nuances of black existence through her eyes. Born and raised in the Bay Area, CA, she grew up in a soul-music blasting household, rooting her in the melismas of Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, and Earth, Wind, and Fire. Mawu combines those roots with branches of other musical styles to create sounds that float straight from your speakers into your subconscious mind. Mawu hopes to plant seeds with her music that will inspire mental shifts of self-empowerment, and a new understanding of this world as we know it.
